New York, NY - The City College of New York women's track & field team kicked off the competition on Saturday at the 2022 CUNY Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Icahn Stadium.
Due to the inclement weather, the remainder of the championships (field events) will resume on Thursday, May 12, at Icahn Stadium. Meet time will be announced at a later date.
Freshman
Zara McPartland had four top-five performances. She earned gold in the women's 3000m steeplechase, running 14:48.52. She finished third overall in the 5000-meter and 1500-meter runs, running 25:02.43 and 6:27.88, respectively.
Freshman
Aakaysha Williams took second in the 3000m steeplechase with a personal-best time of 15:18.86. She also placed fifth in the 1500m run (6:35.82) and sixth in the 800m run (2:58.55). Freshman
Sandra Lu ran to a fourth-place finish in the 1500m run (6:31.82) and grabbed sixth in the javelin throw (18.02m).
Freshman
Leondra Craig finished second in the women's javelin throw with a throw of 24.39m. Sophomore
Chidinma Anunagba led the Beavers in the sprints with a fourth-place performance in the 100m dash (14.47) and a fifth-place finish in the 200m dash (30.70).
Senior
Claudia Serna closed out her career at CCNY with a fourth-place finish in the 10,000m run, clocking a time of 58:59.13.
Serena Warner added a third-place performance in the javelin throw (20.84m) and a fourth-place finish in the long jump (4.10m).
Eki Igbineweka finished sixth in the long jump (3.69m).
In the relays, CCNY's 4x100m team of Anunagba, Warner,
Laura Villatoro, and Craig combined to run a time of 55.24, placing third. In the 4x400m relays, the quadrant consisting of
Joeli Valerio,
Johanni Valerio,
Izel Rueda-Sierra, and
Karina Torres placed fifth overall in a time of 5:43.42.
