New York, NY - The City College of New York men's track & field team earned a second-place finish on Saturday at the 2023 CUNY Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at Icahn Stadium.
Junior
Habibu Gado was named the meet's Most Valuable Performer. Gado dominated the jumping events, taking gold in the long jump (6.70m) and triple jump (12.52m) while producing the top senior college performance in the high jump with a mark of 1.73m. In running events, Gado took gold in the 400m (49.93) and had the top senior college times in the 100m (11.69), 110m hurdles (17.40), and 400m hurdles (1:0.98) races. In addition, he took silver in the 200m (23.20) and bronze in the shot put (10.68m).
Sophomore
Edy Morales claimed third-place finishes in the 3000m Steeplechase (12:44.69) and 10,000-meter run (40:05.84). Sophomore
Christian Rasmussen added a fifth-place finish in the 1500m run (5:14.54 and took sixth in the 5000m run (20:17.94). Sophomore
Ryan Fong earned a sixth-place finish in the 1500m run (5:52.05), while senior
Damian Rivera took sixth in the 800m run (2:40.86).
Freshman
Kamunga Kalala turned in a third-place performance in the 110m hurdles and finished fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:08.71). Sophomore
Antonio Oliveira-Nurse finished third in the 400m hurdles and clocked the fourth place finish h in the 110m hurdles.
In the throws, sophomore
Tyler Gaston took second in the hammer throw (33.10m) and earned a pair of fifth-place finishes in the shot put and discus throw. Freshman
Muhamed Suso earned a second-place in the discus throw with a toss of 30.19m and tallied a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw with a personal-best throw of 31.24m. In the Javelin,
Simoun Urcia placed fifth (28.97m),
Harreek Summan took sixth (27.08m) while
Andrew Ciprian finished sixth in the hammer throw (20.40m)
In the relays, the Beavers sweep both senior college races in 4x100 and 4x400m relays. Both teams consisting of Kalala, Oliveira-Nurse,
Kyle Byron, and Gado combined for a first-place finish in a season-best time of 45.46 in the 4x100m and a season-best time of 3:49.17 in the 4x400m relay.
