The City College of New York men's basketball earned the sixth seed in the 2016 CUNYAC men's basketball tournament and will therefore host the first round. As the six seed, the Beavers will host the seven-seeded York Cardinals on Thursday, February 18 at 7 p.m.
CCNY entering the tournament boasting a 13-12 record looks to use home-court advantage to give them the edge over York who enters the tournament 10-15. During the regular season, City defeated York in both match-ups. First, on December 4, the Beavers won 67-65. Then on January 22, City defeated the Cardinals again with a 76-71 score.
Both teams enter the tournament with NCAA ranking attention.
Khalil Hamer is ranked fifth for total assists, along with seventh for assists per game. He is also ranked in the top 50 for free-throw attempts (20th), free-throws made (35th), total steals (46th), and total minutes (49th).
David Solano also finds his name in NCAA rankings this season with his best ranking of 24th for total three-point field-goals made. Solano is ranked in the top 50 for both three-point field goals per game (35th), three-point field goal percentage (30th).
For the Cardinals, Ryan Smart enters the game ranked 18th in total rebounds and 19th in total minutes. His top 50 rankings are rebounds per game (41st), double-doubles (42nd), and offensive rebounds per game (48th).
The winner of this match-up will move onto the second round which is hosted by the number three-seeded Brooklyn College. That game will take place on Saturday, February 20 at 1 p.m. at the West Quad Center in Brooklyn, New York.
