The City College of New York women's basketball team earned the No. 4 seed in the 2016 CUNYAC women's basketball tournament. With the new tournament bracket, City earned a first round bye and plays host in the quarterfinals. After No. 8 seeded York defeated No. 5 seeded Baruch, they earned their way to Nat Holman Gymnasium for the quarterfinals match-up. The game will take place Sunday, February 21 at 3 p.m.

City won both match-ups against the Cardinals this season. First, on December 4, City won 73-56 than at Nat Holman Gymnasium on January 22, CCNY took home a 82-38 victory. The 82 points scored by the Beavers is the second highest scoring this season, while the 38 points allowed is the second lowest. City only enters the tournament boasting a one-game winning streak, but at home the Beavers are 8-4. CCNY finished the regular season 16-9 which is the most wins since the BLANK season.

The Beavers hope to move onto the semifinals behind the direction of CUNYAC Coach of the Year, Jamie Angeli. Angeli's group of student-athletes have fought hard down the stretch, including winning four of their last five games. Senior forward, Tiara Brown has 17 double-doubles this season which is the most in CUNY and ninth most in NCAA Division III. Brown also leads the CUNYAC with her .586 field goal percentage and her one triple-double. As a team, City ranks third averaging 64.4 points per game and ranks second allowing opponents to score only 56.4 points per game.

York enters the quarterfinals with a 6-19 record. To face up against the Beavers, the Cardinals defeated reigning CUNYAC Champions Baruch. The Cardinals won 72-63 in the first round of the tournament. The Cardinals will look to Jigcara Grant and Angelika Ruggiano for the victory. Grant leads all NCAA divisions in rebounds where she has recorded 507 this season alone. She grabbed 36 boards in the first round game against Baruch. Ruggiano leads the Cardinals with 15.1 points per game.

The winner of this match-up will face No.1 seeded Lehman in the semifinals. The semifinals will take place at Nat Holman Gymnasium on Wednesday, February 24 at 6 p.m.
