STORYLINE
New York, NY - The City College Women's Basketball program starts its run toward the CUNYAC Women's Basketball Championship in the opening round of the Championships. The No. 5 CCNY will host No. 8 Medgar Evers on Thursday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m. The Beavers and the Cougars met twice during the regular, with CCNY earning a 61-44 victory on Jan. 9 and a 77-47 victory on Monday, Feb. 13 at home.
Looking At City College:
CCNY posted a record of (11-14, 6-10 CUNYAC) finishing sixth in the 2017 CUNYAC Women's Basketball standings. The Lavender & Black are the No. 5 seed in this years tournament. CCNY has advanced to the postseason for the seventh straight season and will be looking to win its eleventh conference championship in the programs history. CCNY slipped to Lehman, 84-79, in last year's Semi-Finals.
CCNY last played Medgar Evers in their last regular season game, defeating the Cougars 77-47. All of CCNY's players scored in double digits. Senior Erika Richards finished with a game-high 19 points and six steals. Junior Erica Redwood had her first double-double of the season with 12 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. Senior Alexis Akridge scored posted 14 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Marissa Olsen scored 12 points, while both Debra Chan and Elizabeth Zullo ended with 10 points.
Scouting Medgar Evers College
Medgar Evers College (1-24, 1-5 CUNYAC) is the No. 8 seed in this years tournament. This marks the first time in the programs history the team has earned a tournament berth. A win for the Cougars would mark the program's first tournament victory. In their season finale, the team fell to CCNY 77-47. In the game, Medgar Evers was led by the senior forward Kimonia Mullings who had a team-high 17 points to go along with six rebounds. Senior guard Elesha Dieudonne added 7 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
The winner of the tonights game will advance to the Second Round to play No. 4 Hunter College on Saturday, Feb. 18th on the Hawks home court. The game is slated to begin at 1:00pm.
