MILTON, NY -- Two weeks after winning its fourth straight CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) championship, the City College of New York men's cross country team returned to action at the ECAC Championships on Saturday. Led by
Merlin Padilla Jr. (New York, NY), who took fourth overall, the Beavers finished fifth in the team standings at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome.
Padilla posted a time of 28:03.90 over 8000 meters.
Muhammed Qadri (Staten Island, NY) also had a solid showing, placing 16th in 29:21.20.
Octavio Diaz (New York, NY) finished 30th in 30:05.10, and
Edy Morales (Brooklyn, NY) ended up 32nd with a 30:13.60 clocking.
Simeon Kleinsasser (Brooklyn, NY), meanwhile, recorded a time of 30:21.40, which was good for 33rd place.
With 114 points, the Beavers took fifth out of 18 teams. St. Joseph's (LI) won the team title with 62 points, while NYU edged McDaniel 69-70 for second place. Hobart also finished ahead of CCNY.
Next Saturday, the Beavers will compete at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships in Canton, NY. If CCNY finishes among the top two in the team standings, the Beavers will qualify for the NCAA Championships.
