NEW YORK – Over the next few weeks, the City College of New York Athletic Department will be honoring its graduating student-athletes who, due to the cancellation of the 2020-21 season, didn't get the chance to celebrate a traditional "Senior Day" this year. Today we recognize the seniors on both the men's and women's volleyball teams.
Andrew Chan ranked second in the CUNYAC in assists (561) and assists per set (9.51) while twice being selected CUNYAC Player of the Week in 2020. The Beavers' starting setter for three seasons, he finished his career with 1,474 total assists to go along with 46 service aces.
Jonathan Liao earned CUNYAC Libero of the Year honors in 2020 after leading the league and ranking second nationally with 3.27 digs per set. He was also selected to the 2020 CUNYAC All-Star Second Team. A two-year starter at libero, Liao appeared in all 123 sets the Beavers played over the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
Carlos Maldonado Madrid was named a CUNYAC All-Star three times during his CCNY career. In 2018, he led the Beavers with 225 kills and 3.57 kills per set while also ranking second on the team with 123 digs and 1.95 digs per set. Maldonado Madrid was first on the team with 2.03 digs per set in 2019, then finished among the top 10 in the CUNYAC in both digs (ninth, 2.16 per set) and kills (10
th, 2.44 per set) during the 2020 campaign.
Oanh Han served as the women's team's primary libero for two seasons. In 2019, she tallied exactly 200 digs while also contributing 39 assists and 31 service aces, as CCNY advanced to the CUNYAC semifinals.
Rachel Ramirez received the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award in 2019. She finished with 14 digs and two blocks in CCNY's victory over John Jay in the 2019 CUNYAC Tournament, then had eight kills in the CUNYAC semifinal match at Hunter. A two-year starter, Ramirez ranked 10
th in the league with 0.52 service aces per set in 2019.
