Women's Track & Field Finishes Third at CUNYAC Championships

New York, NY - The City College of New York women's track & field team earned a third-place finish at the 2022 CUNY Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Sunday evening at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory. 

Freshman Zara McPartland scored in three events for the Beavers, placing within the top-five. She ran to a second-place finish in the women's mile run, clocking a personal-best time of 6:16.85, took third in the 3000-meter run (13:56.16), and fifth in the 200-meter dash (29.95). She also finished seventh in the 400 meters (1:12.32). 

Freshman Stephanie Toussaint took home gold in the women's weight throw, winning the event with a new personal best throw of 11.44m. Toussaint also earned bronze in the women's shot put with a personal-best toss of 9.31m. Freshman Serena Warner earned a third-place finish in the weight throw, throwing a personal-best of 11.02m and took fourth in the shot put (9.14m). Warner also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash, running 29.79.

Freshman Aaskaysha Williams earned three top-six finishes, placing third in the 400-meter dash (1:07.08) and 60-meter hurdles (12.25) while taking sixth in the 800-meter run (2:55.74). Her three individual performances were personal-best.

Freshman Sandra Lu placed fifth overall in the 800-meter run, running a personal-best time of 2:51.15. Senior Nabila Jahan raced to a fourth-place finish in the mile run with a personal-best time of 7:05.08

In the 60-meter dash, freshman Joeli Valerio and Eki Igbineweka qualified for the finals, each running a personal-best time of 9.30 and 9.44 in the preliminaries. In the finals, Valerio finished fifth in 9.40, while Igbineweka took sixth in 9.51.

In the long jump, Lu and Igbineweka finished second and third, respectfully. Lu earned silver with a personal-best leap of 4.13m, and Igbineweka took bronze with a personal-best jump of 3.94m.

In the 4x400m relay, CCNY's team of Lu, Israt Jahan, Johanni Valerio, and Williams ran a season-best time of 5:07.40, taking fourth.
