CCNY Women’s Track & Field Turns in Solid Performances at Spartan Invitational

Staten Island, NY – The City College of New York women's track & field team put together a strong showing at the Spartan Invitational, competing across sprints, distance, relays, and field events. The meet was highlighted by multi-event performances and solid depth throughout the program the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

Freshman Mikelena Bouzy represented CCNY in the short sprints, finishing 13th in the 60 meters with a time of 8.37 before clocking 27.78 in the 200 meters. In the 400 meters, Fahmida Choudhury posted a time of 1:19.91, while fellow freshman Jennifer Cuba competed in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 3:32.36. Distance duties were led by Karuna Aikawa, who completed the 3000 meters in 13:38.89.

CCNY also fielded a Distance Medley Relay squad, as Choudhury, Cuba, Susan Smolaga, and Aikawa combined for a seventh-place finish with a time of 17:36.25.

In the field events, junior Serena Warner delivered a standout performance, recording a season-best mark of 4.30 meters (14'1.25") in the long jump. Warner continued her strong day in the throws, placing 14th in the shot put with a mark of 9.78 meters (32'1") and adding a 10.26-meter (33'8") effort in the weight throw. Freshman Natalya Golia also contributed in the throwing events, posting marks of 6.25 meters in the shot put and 6.94 meters (22'9.25") in the weight throw.

Next, the Beavers will compete at the Wagner Invite on Saturday, January 17th, at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
