CCNY Women's Volleyball Sweeps Lehman and Medgar Evers to Remain Unbeaten

CCNY is 5-0 to start a season for the first time in program history, their best start since 2009

New York, NY - The City College of New York women's volleyball team's historic start to the season continued to roll on Saturday as the Beavers opened conference play with a pair of sweeping victories over Lehman College and Medgar Evers College to remain unbeaten. The Beavers elevate to 5-0 overall and 2-0 league play. 

CCNY is 5-0 to start a season for the first time in program history, their best start since 2009.

Match One: CCNY 3, Lehman 0 (25-23, 25-9, 25-9)

The Beavers open the day by defeating Lehman in straight sets.

Sophomore Bianka Catral led the way with a game-high 11 kills while adding nine digs and four aces. Sophomore Arianna Rivas posted six kills and a match-high 14 digs, while senior Nadia Campoverde added a season-high nine kills in the match.

Freshman Aubrey Jones dished out a match-high 24 assists, along with three aces and six digs. Sophomore Viviana Alatorre tallied nine digs, while Michelle Fernandez recorded eight digs of her own.

Match Two: CCNY 3, Medgar Evers 0 (25-2, 25-4, 25-14)

In the nightcap, CCNY faced off against Medgar Evers, defeating the Cougars in three sets for the team's third sweep of the season.

Jones led the team with a match-high 22 assists and four aces. Catral finished with nine kills, six digs, and 12 service aces. Campoverde collected five kills, six aces, and six digs. 

Alatorre posted a match-high ten digs, four aces, and a pair of assists in the win. Freshman Nila Tom tallied four kills and two aces, while Serena Warner added three. Freshman Katherine Menjivar had a season-high four digs and two aces.

Next, the Beavers will look to continue their momentum when they travel to take on Sarah Lawrence College on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m.
