New York, NY – The City College of New York baseball team is set to compete in its fourth consecutive CUNY Athletic Conference Championship this weekend. The Beavers will face off against Baruch College in a best-of-three series beginning Saturday, May 10, at Reinhart Baseball Field at Maritime College in Throggs Neck, NY.
Led by Head Coach Scott Loshe, the Beavers aim to reclaim the CUNYAC title, having last captured the Championship in 2023.

Looking at the Beavers
- The CCNY Beavers clinched their third-straight CUNYAC Regular-Season title and the top seed in the Tournament, entering Saturday's match with a 12-12 overall record, bringing a deep and balanced lineup into the championship series, featuring multiple consistent hitters and a blend of power, speed, and on-base production.
- Junior Kevin Budzinski leads the team with a stellar .392 batting average and a 1.039 OPS, recording 31 hits, 25 runs, and 18 RBI in 22 games. He also leads in stolen bases, going 15-for-17.
- Freshman Demetri Zirogiannis has been the team's top run producer with 31 RBI, while also batting .365 with four home runs, 52 total bases, and a team-best .612 slugging percentage.
- Senior Michael Chasanov (.352 AVG) and sophomore Jake Brenner (.351 AVG) add strength to the middle of the order, combining for 42 RBI and 58 total bases across 44 starts.
- On the mound, CCNY enters the championship series with a determined, experienced pitching staff. Junior Erik Rank leads the rotation with a strong 6–1 record, showcasing resilience and the ability to win key matchups. His strikeout totals (36 in 39.1 innings) demonstrate his knack for missing bats when it matters most.
- Alongside him, senior Brandon Paider brings veteran poise and leads the team in innings pitched (52.1 innings), giving CCNY a reliable arm to anchor the rotation.
- Freshman Samuel Puttock adds depth and versatility, working 34.1 innings, tallying 25 strikeots in his rookie campaign.
Scouting the Bearcats
- On Tuesday, the third-seeded Baruch Bearcats (12-18) advanced to the Championship, edging out John Jay in 15 innings, 7-6, No. 2 John Jay in their First Round matchup.
- This season, Bearcats offense is powered by standout junior Joseph Cocozza, who leads the team with a .454 average, 49 hits, and 35 RBI, while maintaining a perfect 15-for-15 in stolen bases. Supporting him are Roy Longarzo (.355 AVG, 17 SB) and Peter Marino (.319 AVG, 25 RBI), both of whom bring speed and run production.
