New York, NY – A new chapter begins for the City College of New York women's volleyball program in 2025, as first-year head coach Perla Sanchez takes the helm. With a strong background as both a player and coach, Sanchez brings fresh energy and a clear vision poised to guide the Beavers toward growth and success this season.

In their preseason matchup against Monroe College (Bronx) last Thursday, the Beavers gave fans a first look at the 2025 squad. Even though it was only an exhibition, Nat Holman Gymnasium was filled with energy, as students, family, and supporters showcased their pride and community spirit.

Sanchez brings a proud playing background as a former CUNY standout and an accomplished coach, with experience developing student-athletes at both the collegiate and club levels. Her journey reflects not only her dedication to the sport but also her commitment to mentoring the next generation of players.

That passion is matched by a focus on individualized coaching and player development. Whether emphasizing fundamentals, instilling confidence on and off the court, or creating teaching moments that adapt to different learning styles, Sanchez is setting a new tone for CCNY volleyball—rooted in growth, resilience, and community.

The Beavers return a strong core of experience to the 2025 roster, led by junior libero Rosalynda Russo and junior outside hitter/libero Fatimah Coppin, anchoring the back row. At the net, senior middle blockers Serena Warner and Nila Tom bring size and leadership, while sophomore middle blocker Kejsi Metko adds depth and energy to the front line. On the pins, sophomore right side Ivanna Zamora Sanchez provides versatility, with sophomore outside/right side hitter Rachael Reyes rounding out the returning group.

They'll be joined by a talented group of newcomers, headlined by graduate transfer Gia Skenderi (Little Neck, NY / The Mary Louis Academy) from Iona University, who strengthens the Beavers' outside and right side attack. Also entering the fold are setter Danuzia Caixeta Palmer, middle/right side Jia Liu Hua, and outside/right side hitter Rayhanna Bailey —all eager to make an immediate impact.

The Beavers will launch the 2025 season on Saturday, September 6, traveling for a tri-match hosted by Rutgers–Newark, where they'll face both Albright College and the host Scarlet Raiders.
