New York, NY - The City College of New York men's track & field team competed at the NYU DIII Invitational at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York City, posting solid performances against a strong field of competition.
Freshman Mustapha Abubakar led the way in the sprints, qualifying second overall in the 60-meter preliminaries with a time of 6.99 before clocking 7.04 in the finals. Abubakar also posted a strong third-place finish in the 200 meters, running 22.37, while freshman Jonathan Patterson followed closely with a 23.56 performance.
In the middle distances, freshman Michael Abayev paced the Beavers with consistent efforts, running 2:06.07 in the 800 meters and 4:40.51 in the mile. Daniel Gonzalez added depth in both the 400 meters (1:00.98) and the 800 meters.
The hurdles group saw Graduate-student Antonio Oliveira-Nurse record a 10.15 in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries, with Dontay Mobley also competing. CCNY's 4x400 relay squad of David Similca, Abayev, Abubakar, and Gonzalez combined for a time of 3:52.08 to close out the track events.
In the field, Muniru Abdulai delivered a strong showing in the jumps, recording a mark of 5.61 meters in the long jump and placing 11th in the triple jump with a best leap of 11.57 meters. Oliveira-Nurse also competed in the triple jump, clearing 11.15 meters.
