New York, NY - The City College of New York men's indoor track & field team put together a strong, well-rounded performance at the 2026 CUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, finishing third overall with 103 points at the historic Armory Track & Field Center.
CCNY scored consistently across sprints, middle distance, distance, relays, and field events, with several freshman standouts playing key roles throughout the meet.
Sophomore
Michael Abayev led the way for CCNY, capturing the conference title in the Mile with a winning time of 4:50.68, earning nine points. He added a runner-up finish in the 800 meters (2:07.60) and anchored the 4x400 relay, making him one of the top point contributors of the championship.
In the sprints, freshman
Jonathan Patterson delivered strong performances, finishing third in both the 60 meters (7.21) and the 200 meters (23.14). The 400-meter group added valuable points as
David Similca placed third (54.06) and sophomore
Justice Omoruyi followed in fourth (54.96).
Distance events were another area of strength for CCNY. Senior
Trent Santoro earned a third-place finish in the 3000 meters, while
Jared Bravo contributed scoring finishes in both the Mile and 3000 meters. Freshman Tristan Hyltan added points in the 800 meters.
CCNY also excelled in the relays. The 4x400 relay team of
Mustapha Abubakar, Similca, Omoruyi, and Abayev placed second overall with a time of 3:46.09, while the Distance Medley Relay earned third place.
In the field events,
Muniru Abdulai produced a standout meet with a third-place finish in the Triple Jump and a fourth-place effort in the Long Jump. Matthew Zboinski added points with a third-place finish in the Shot Put, and
Hector Campos contributed in both the Shot Put and Weight Throw.
With contributions coming from across the roster, the CCNY men's team showcased depth, competitiveness, and a promising future, closing the indoor season with a third-place finish at the CUNYAC Championships.
