New York, NY - The City College of New York Department of Athletics & Recreation mourns the passing of former Head Men's Soccer Coach Roberto Ignaccolo, whose dedication to student-athletes, commitment to academic excellence, and passion for the game of soccer left an enduring impact on the program.

Ignaccolo joined CCNY in the fall of 2007 as head coach of the men's soccer program. Over the course of 16 seasons (2007–2023), he led the Beavers with a steadfast commitment to excellence, helping shape the lives of countless student-athletes by emphasizing success in the classroom, personal growth, and competitive achievement on the field. His leadership and dedication left an enduring mark on the men's soccer program and the CCNY Athletics community.

Under Ignaccolo's leadership, the Beavers enjoyed one of the most successful stretches in program history. After leading CCNY to the CUNYAC Championship Final in 2013, signaling the program's return to conference prominence, Ignaccolo guided the Beavers to the pinnacle of conference success in 2015. CCNY captured the CUNYAC Championship with a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime victory over the College of Staten Island, earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005. The championship season remains one of the defining accomplishments in modern CCNY men's soccer history.

Throughout his tenure, Ignaccolo coached numerous CUNYAC All-Stars, All-Conference selections, and award winners while fostering a culture built on discipline, teamwork, and academic achievement. His influence extended well beyond wins and losses, as he was deeply committed to developing complete student-athletes prepared for success after graduation.
Before arriving at CCNY, Ignaccolo brought more than two decades of collegiate coaching experience to the Beavers. He spent ten seasons as an assistant coach at Montclair State University from 1996 to 2006, helping guide the Red Hawks to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a run to the NCAA Division III Sweet 16.

Prior to Montclair State, Ignaccolo served as an assistant men's soccer coach at Ramapo College from 1991 to 1995. In 1993, he founded Ramapo's women's soccer program and became its inaugural head coach, laying the foundation for its future success.

A former collegiate player at the University of Cincinnati, Ignaccolo dedicated his life to developing student-athletes both on and off the field. Beyond the collegiate ranks, he remained active in the soccer community through his involvement with the New Jersey Soccer Association, Champions League Soccer, and the Real Wyckoff International Soccer League.
