RIVERDALE, NY -- Led by
Yanelle Serrano's (Bronx, NY) fifth-place showing, the City College of New York women's cross country team took fourth as a team at the CUNY Athletic Conference Championships from a rain-soaked Van Cortlandt Park on Sunday morning. It was the Beavers' best team result at the conference meet since 2014, when they also finished fourth.
Serrano became the first CCNY woman to earn a top-five showing at the CUNYAC Championships since
Ashley Crandall in 2016. She completed the soggy 6000-meter course in 27:59.1.
It was a balanced team effort behind Serrano, as CCNY's next four finishers all came across between 20th and 26th place.
Amy Jacob (Queens, NY) placed 20th in 32:21.3, followed by
Frieja White (Brooklyn, NY) in 21st (32:27.2).
Xenia Connell's (New York, NY) 32:59.0 clocking was good for 22nd place, while
Claudia Serna (Mineola, NY) came in 26th with a time of 34:07.6.
The Beavers posted a team score of 94 points. With 31 points, Hunter won its record sixth consecutive CUNYAC championship.
After a week off, CCNY will head to Milton, NY for the ECAC Championships on Nov. 9.
