KINGS POINT, NY - On Sunday, the CCNY women's track & field program put up strong performances, competing at the Coach Omeltchenko Invitational.
Sophomore
Avery Maillet claimed first-place in the long jump, landing the nations second-best jump this season of 5.78m. Maillet won the 200-meter dash, clocking 25.66 while also adding a pair of second-place finishes in the 100m dash (12.76) and in the triple jump (10.56).
Junior
Lucy Piacentini earned three top finishes, winning the 400m hurdles in a personal-best time of 1:08.06, finishing first in the triple jump (11.20m) , and earned the top mark in the high jump (1.47m).
Freshman
Tyesha Irving ran to a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (16.69) and placed fourth in the 100m (13.42) and sixth in the 200m (28.46).
Frieja White Tia Tyrell,
Yanelle Serrano,
Sabrina Diaz, and
Claudia Serna all collected new personal-best in the distance events. White won the 3000m steeplechase in 15:38.89 while Tyrell took second in the16:06.76. Serrano hit career-best marks in the 800m (2:40.60) and 1500 (5:29.75). Diaz boosted personal-best in the 1500m (6:12.96) and 3000m (14:27.14) while Serna ran 7:13.47 in the 1500m.
In the throwing events, senior
Jaclyn Williams led the way with three top-five finishes. She had a personal-best toss in the hammer throw of 33.68m, taking second and placed third in both the shot put (9.94m) and discus throw (31.29m).
CCNY's 4x100 relay team nabbed first-place with a time of 52.76. The team consisted of Irving, Maillet, Piacentini, and
Shanika Scott.
The program return to action on Friday, Apr. 19 - 20 at the Widener Invitational hosted by Widener University in Chester, PA.
