NEW YORK –
For the third consecutive year, the City College of New York women's track & field team is the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Indoor Champions.  And the Beavers did it in dominant fashion.  CCNY won seven events, led by Championship MVP Avery Maillet's (New York, NY) four individual titles, to finish 26 points clear of second-place Hunter on Sunday night at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center.

Maillet began the night with an easy victory in the long jump.  Her mark of 5.34 meters (17 feet, 6¼ inches) was nearly a foot farther than the second-place finisher.  She then took to the track and won the 60 meters with a 7.88-second clocking.  Up next was the 400 meters, and Maillet was the only competitor to break the one-minute barrier, notching a 59.59-second clocking.  She completed her gold-medal haul by winning the 200 meters in 25.17 seconds.  Maillet also ran the anchor leg in the 4x400 meter relay and nearly led the Beavers to another victory, finishing just 0.76 seconds behind the York runner after receiving the baton in fourth place.

Lucy Piacentini (Hicksville, NY), meanwhile, medaled in six different events.  She took gold in the triple jump (10.51 m, 34'5¾) and high jump (1.47 m, 4'9¾) to go along with a third-place showing behing Maillet in the long jump (4.86 m, 15'11½).  Piacentini added bronze medals in the 400 (1:03.42) and 60 meter hurdles (9.73), and a silver in the 4x400 relay.

CCNY's seventh first-place finish was an upset win by Tyesha Irving (Elmont, NY) in the 60 hurdles.  Seeded third in the event, she posted a time of 9.63 seconds to edge Lehman's Glory Odeh by 0.02 seconds.  Irving also took second in the high jump with a 1.42 m (4'7¾) clearance.

Oluwafisayo Adeoye (St. Albans, NY) took the silver medal in the triple jump (10.32 m, 33'10¼) and ran the third leg on the 4x400 relay.  Tia Tyrell (New York, NY) was the fourth member of that relay squad.

Claudia Serna (Mineola, NY) added third-place points in the weight throw (8.66 m, 28'5).  She also finished sixth in the shot put (8.51 m, 27'11).  Karen Anunagba (Bronx, NY), meanwhile, contributed eight points in the sprints with a third-place showing in the 200 (27.84) and a fifth-place effort in the 60 (8.55).

Overall, the Beavers tallied 143 points to become the first women's team in 17 years (Lehman, 2000-03) to win three consecutive CUNYAC indoor titles.  Hunter was second (117) and Lehman placed third in the team standings (91).  The championship was CCNY's ninth, breaking a tie with Hunter for the most women's indoor titles in conference history.

With the CUNYAC three-peat secured, the Beavers now look towards the final two competitions of the indoor season.  Those who have qualified will return to the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center for the ECAC Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday.
